Vegan German Chocolate Brownies


  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 dark chocolate bar (melted, mixed in)
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt -1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips (optional)

Coconut topping:

  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 can (14 oz.) of coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp. coconut flour
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 to 4 cups shredded coconut

For brownies, combine applesauce, sugar, and vanilla in a small bowl. In a large bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients, except the melted chocolate bar and chocolate chips. Combine the large and small bowls, then mix in melted chocolate and chocolate chips. For coconut topping, mix all ingredients together, adding shredded coconut last. Add more coconut flour to thicken, if desired. Bake brownies at 350F for 25-30 minutes, until no longer sticking to a toothpick. Wait for brownies to cool, spread coconut topping, cut, and serve.
